My definition: an abiotic factor is any nonliving object that has a complete effect towards biotic factors. "A" means not and "bio" means living="nonliving" factor.
Air:
air produces oxygen for the cells and helps us make carbon dioxide. Animals and humans use oxygen to breathe. Nitrogen is used in plants to synthesize proteins. Plants use carbon dioxide to create carbon-containing sugar, which is created in photosynthesis.
Temperature: all plants, animals and humans have adapted to the weather conditions in their area. Some animals can fluctuate their body temperature in different seasonal conditions (cold blooded animals). Others can regulate their body temperature according to the outside temperature (warm blooded).
Rocks: some insects enjoy to hide away underneath rock. Some may say that the habitat of an insect is under a rock. Rocks, when they break down, give nutrients to the soil.
Water: No, it's not just for hydration. Our bodies are 60% water, our brains are 70% water and our lungs are 90% water. We need to replace 2.4 liters of water into our bodies. Water is used to help maintain osmotic pressure in cells, transport food and dissolve most chemicals the cell needs to function.
